The MELT program educates and trains commercial drivers in accordance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Safety Code. This program consists of 113 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of hands-on training in a motor vehicle, among other things. The program includes both driving and safety training, which should result in a reduction in the number of accidents in the future.

The Class 1 MELT Equivalent Course offers several other benefits, such as improved public health and safety and lower costs.

The MELT program is a four-day classroom training program. 

  • Students must complete 113 hours of classroom training and 40 hours of on-the-job training before they become eligible to sit for the examination.

Class 1 Melt Equivalent Course Are Offered In Alberta. 

  • Those who have completed a Class 3 driving course already have the experience and education needed to pass the MELT exam.

A Driver’s MELT Program Consists Of Three Components:

Students will learn about the regulations and rules governing commercial vehicles during the classroom sessions. The course will also include the required road test. If you already hold a Class 3 license, you will be eligible for the Experience and Equivalency Class 1 MELT.

The E&E Class 1 MELT program requires applicants to hold a Class 3 commercial license in Canada for at least three years. 

  • Applicants must have a valid license for 12 months or more before the application process. 
  • For the B.C. Class 1 MELT program, you must pass a road test within two years of application. You must also have a valid license to drive a car in B.C.
